One of the most high-profile officials in Europe, Michael Oliver will take charge of our first ever Premier League outing this Friday.
Son of Football League Referee, Clive Oliver, the Northumberland official took up the whistle at the age of 14. Eight years later he was officiating the Conference Play-Off Final at Wembley, becoming the youngest man to referee a game at the National Stadium.
He progressed through the ranks to take the League One Play-Off final in 2009 and became the youngest top-flight referee when he oversaw Birmingham City vs Blackburn Rovers in August 2010, aged 25.
In 2016, Oliver was appointed to the UEFA list of Champions League referees, four years after his addition to the FIFA list.
His first two Brentford games were both in League Two. A 1-1 draw away at Rochdale in October 2007 was followed 12 months later by another 1-1 draw, this time at Grimsby. His last four Bees games have all been high-profile affairs. He took charge of our EFL Cup Third Round giantkilling of Everton in September 2010 before awarding us the last minute penalty against Doncaster Rovers which Marcello Trotta missed on the final day of the 2012/13 season.
His last two Brentford games have come in Round Four of the FA Cup in the form of our trip to Chelsea in 2016/17 and last season's 3-1 defeat at home to eventual winners Leicester City.
The summer saw Oliver take charge of three games at Euro 2020. He was the man in the middle for the Group Stage matches between Hungary and France and Sweden and Poland before sending off Switzerland's Remo Freuler in their Quarter-Final defeat to Spain on penalties.
In total last season, Oliver showed 132 yellow cards and five red cards in 44 matches across the Premier League, Nations League, Champions League, FA Cup, World Cup Qualifying, and European Championships.
346 fouls - Fewest in Premier League
47 yellow cards - 17th in Premier League
5 red cards - Second-most in Premier League
