Brentford v Milton Keynes Dons Saturday 5 December 2015 Griffin Park Kick-off: 3pm
The season so far
Milton Keynes Dons visit Griffin Park for this league fixture, which occurs outside of third tier for the first time in the two clubs’ histories. The Dons haven’t won on the road since the opening day of the season, a 4-1 win over Rotherham United. Last weekend’s goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers was their first point away from Buckinghamshire since early October.
They added some Football League experience to their squad over the summer in the form of Simon Church [Charlton Athletic], Nicky Maynard [Cardiff City] and former England defender Matthew Upson [Leicester City]. Highly rated American youngster Cody Cropper was also signed from Southampton, the USA Under-20 star acting as backup to David Martin.
The Club also brought in three attackers on loan deals. Josh Murphy [Norwich City], Rob Hall [Bolton Wanderers] and Diego Poyet [West Ham] - son of former Chelsea midfielder Gus - all signed until the end of the season.
Going the other way, Danny Green [Luton Town] and Tom Flanagan [Burton Albion] left for new challenges during the summer. Under-21 players George Baldock and Harry Hickford were sent out on loan to Oxford United and Torquay United respectively. The Dons will also be without the services of Dale Jennings tomorrow as he continues recovery from a knee injury.
The Gaffer
Karl Robinson is the longest serving manager in the Championship, and third longest in England behind Arsène Wenger and Paul Tisdale, after being in charge of The Dons for more than five and a half years.
After retiring early from football with a back injury, he worked in Liverpool’s academy for eight years before making a step up to first team coach in Buckinghamshire under Paul Ince. He followed the former Manchester United captain to Blackburn but the duo soon returned, with Robinson making the step up to assistant manager. When Ince resigned, he assumed the role he continues today.
