Millwall vs Brentford The Den Tony Craig Testimonial Kick-off: 3pm
The Opponents
Millwall came agonisingly close to an instant return to the second tier under club legend Neil Harris last season as they reached the Sky Bet League One Play-Off final only to be beaten by Barnsley at Wembley. After relegation from the Championship in 2014/15 Harris, the club's all-time leading goalscorer, was installed as permanent Head Coach in April succeeding Ian Holloway. It was a slow start to the season under Harris but The Lions found form over the autumn months, thanks in no small part to the goals of Lee Gregory and Steve Morison, to stay in touch with the Play-Off places. Despite a run of four straight wins to end the season automatic promotion eluded them by four points. Bradford City were dispatched 4-2 in the Play-Off semi-finals but Barnsley ended The Lions hopes of instant promotion back to the second tier after a 3-1 win in May.
Perhaps the best bit of business at The Den in the off season so far has been to retain the services of top scorer Gregory and young goalkeeper Jordan Archer, both of whom attracted attention during the last campaign. The Lions have lost defender Mark Beevers to Bolton Wanderers while Lee Martin, John Marquis, Ed Upson, and Carlos Edwards have also departed on free transfers. This morning veteran goalkeeper David Forde joined Portsmouth on a season-long loan, joining Paris Cowan-Hall [Wycombe Wanderers], in a temporary stay in League Two. A trio of players have arrived in SE16 over the summer, namely centre-back Shaun Hutchinson from Fulham, and wingers David Worrall and Gregg Wylde from Southend United and Plymouth Argyle respectively.
