Brentford vs Huddersfield Town

Saturday 11 March Griffin Park Sky Bet Championship Kick-off: 3pm

The Opponents

The Sky Bet Championship's surprise package show no sign of running out of steam as the season moves into the final quarter. Little was expected from The Terriers this campaign, outside of West Yorkshire, but David Wagner's Gegenpressing men have confounded the critics to sit third in the Sky Bet Championship table, six points behind the top two but with a game in hand. It hasn't been spectacular: The Terriers are the lowest scorers in the top ten, and their 35 league games have seen just 85 goals. However, six wins from their last eight, including victories over Leeds United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Reading, show that the men from the John Smith's Stadium should be there or thereabouts in the end of season shake-up.

After a hectic summer transfer window, Wagner was much more circumspect in January with only Collin Quaner [Union Berlin] joining permanently and Izzy Brown agreeing a temporary swap from Chelsea. Town were without the services of goalkeeper Danny Ward (thigh) and Kasey Palmer (hamstring) for Tuesday night’s victory at home to Aston Villa. One player on the comeback trail is Sean Scannell, who played his first competitive minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday afternoon following ankle surgery.

The Gaffer

David Wagner took over as Head Coach at Huddersfield Town in November 2015, replacing Chris Powell. The 44-year-old previously worked under Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dormund, alongside his assistant Christoph Bühler, where they were in charge of BVB’s second squad for four-and-a-half years.

Wagner played professionally as a striker in his native country Germany, lining up for Mainz 05 and Schalke 04 throughout the 1990s. He was part of the Schalke squad that won the 1996/97 UEFA Cup, scoring in the 5-2 First Round win over Roda JC. Eligible due to his American father, he earned eight caps for the United States at international level in the late 1990s.
