Match Details
Brentford vs Cardiff City Griffin Park Kick-off: 7.45pm
The season so far
This evening's match is Cardiff City's third successive fixture against West London opposition. A 2-1 loss to Fulham and a goalless draw with Queens Park Rangers sees our visitors arrive in seventh, five points away from a play-off spot.
Over the course of the season, The Bluebirds have lost just one more game (10) than table-toppers Middlesbrough. However, they have drawn as many as they have won (16), which has seen them fail to break into the top six.
The reverse fixture earlier this year was won by a last gasp goal from Kenwyne Jones, making it 3-2 in the dying moments of the game. Jake Bidwell's first Brentford goal and a John Swift strike had almost rescued The Bees from going two behind after 35 minutes.
Goalkeeper Simon Moore returns to Griffin Park this evening, where he called home between August 2009 and July 2013. Simon made over 70 appearances in all competitions for The Bees, including the famous 2-2 draw with Chelsea in an FA Cup match three years ago.
The January transfer window gave Joe Mason [Wolverhampton Wanderers] and Alex Revell [Milton Keynes Dons] opportunities to leave the club. They joined Federico Macheda [Nottingham Forest] and Declan John [Chesterfield] who also left, but these were loan deals.
Three new additions were loaned in recently; Lex Immers from Feyenoord, Tom Lawrence from Leicester City and Kenneth Zohore from Belgian side KV Kortrijk.
The Gaffer
Russell Slade took charge of Cardiff in October 2014, replacing former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This appointment came 20 years after his first managerial job as caretaker boss of Notts County in 1994.
A former PE teacher, with extensive experience in low level football, Slade moved into coaching before ever making a professional appearance in the Football League. He has managed at ten clubs, including Yeovil Town, Sheffield United and Leyton Orient.
