The Season So Far
Tonight's visitors arrive to the capital after winning their first game in six league outings on Saturday, against Bristol City. In fact, the West Yorkshire club’s most common result this season has been to share the points with their opponents. Even this evening’s reverse fixture ended 1-1 after Marco Djuricin scored a goal on his debut in September.
After only winning two games in their first two months, and exiting the Capital One Cup on penalties to Doncaster Rovers, their form continued to drop through October. They started picking up good results as Christmas approached and have found themselves around mid-table ever since.
For the second game in a row, a summer departure returns to Griffin Park in the form of Stuart Dallas. He was one of several new faces at Elland Road including Chris Wood [Leicester City] and Liam Bridcutt [Sunderland]. Mustapha Carayol was also recently added to the squad on loan from Middlesbrough.
The team let striker Billy Sharp leave to start his third spell with Sheffield United, while Rodolph Austin returned to Scandinavia with Brondby IF. Veteran midfielder Michael Tonge moved to League Two Stevenage and, after a long loan spell, striker Steve Morison joined Millwall permanently.
Last week The Whites confirmed that Sam Byram had signed for West Ham United. After injuring his ankle earlier this season, Ross Turnbull has been ruled out until at least next month.
The Gaffer
Steve Evans has been in charge of United for three months, after taking over from former Brentford boss Uwe Rösler in October. Alongside long-term assistant Paul Raynor, the Glaswegian became the seventh Head Coach in the last two seasons.
After being released from the Bolton Wanderers youth academy, he revived his playing career in Scotland but it was cut short by injury. He began his first managerial role at Stamford AFC before spells with Boston United, Crawley Town and Rotherham United.
