The Opposition

Southampton's U23 squad are part of the Premier League 2, playing in Division 2 of the two-tiered system. Their most recent result was a 3-2 win over second-place Wolverhampton Wanderers, which lifted The Saints to fifth in the league table. Manchester United are currently top of the standings, with Sunderland at the other end in twelfth.

This squad are also a part of the Checkatrade Tropy campaign in a group with Cambridge United, Colchester United and Southend United. So far, each team is on three points going into the final round of group stage games. Southampton beat Colchester 2-0 but lost their next game 4-0 to Cambridge. They face an away day to Roots Hall to try and qualify for the next round.

Radhi Jaïdi's side also compete in the Premier League International Cup and find themselves in a group with FC Porto, Dinamo Zagreb and West Ham United. Sam Gallagher scored the only goal in their win over Zagreb before Marcus Barnes was on hand to net in the 1-1 draw with the Portuguese side. Their final tie with The Hammers is scheduled for December.

Opposition Boss

Saints Technical Director Martin Hunter is the man in charge of Southampton, alongside Lead Development Coach Rahdi Jaïdi.

Jaïdi was a centre-back during his 19-year playing career that also saw him win 105 caps for Tunisia, playing in the FIFA World Cups of 2002 and 2006, as well as the Africa Cup of Nations 2004 and 2008.

The 43-year-old started his career with native side Espérance ST, befoee moving to England with Bolton Wanderers. Birmingham City followed, shortly before he hung up his boots while playing for Southampton in 2012.

Brentford B

This weekend, the B Team took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly that saw them complete another victory at Jersey Road. Joe Hardy, Jarvis Edobor and Nikolaj Kirk all scored in that game. Kevin O'Connor's side lost 2-1 to this Southampton side at Jersey Road in August, Edobor scoring in this one too.

Tonight's game will see fullback Rico Henry start a match for the first time in over a year. We could also see Henrik Johansson, the Swede having missed the start of the season with injury but who returned to full training recently.
