Owner Matthew Benham and Chairman Cliff Crown have thanked Mark Warburton for his efforts as he leaves his role as Brentford Football Club Manager. Mark’s final day as a Brentford employee is today, Saturday May 30.

He has been Brentford Manager since December 10 2013 having previously held the positions of Sporting Director and Interim First Team Coach. Mark first arrived at Brentford in February 2011 to work with Interim Manager Nicky Forster. He was Sporting Director from June 2011 to December 2013 and stepped in to the managerial position when Uwe Rösler left Brentford.

When Mark first arrived Brentford were facing the possibility of relegation from League One, his final game was a Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final against Middlesbrough. David Weir, who has been Mark’s assistant for the past 18 months, will also be leaving.

Matthew said: “I would like to personally thank Mark for his hard work and the success he has achieved at Brentford. He arrived at a difficult time for the Club and has been with us as we have progressed up the leagues.

“We have worked closely together over the past four years and he has helped build what we now have at Brentford. His legacy will be the squad that got us so close to the Premier League and a back-room structure that gives us a firm foundation.

“David Weir has also played a very important role and I would like to thank him too for all his work. I wish both Mark and David all the best for the future.”

In April 2014 Brentford won promotion from Sky Bet League One and Mark became only the third man in the Club’s history – after Harry Curtis and Phil Holder – to lead Brentford out of the third tier.

Brentford broke a series of Club Records in 2013/14, including a record points haul of 94, in finishing second in League One.

He then led Brentford to a fifth-place finish in the Championship and a place in the Play-Offs, the Club’s highest league finishing position since 1946/47.

Cliff said: “I would like to add my thanks on behalf of the Club’s Board to Mark and David for all their efforts. They have become a really successful duo.

“Mark was a very successful Sporting Director when I was first appointed to the Board and then took over as Manager when Uwe Rösler left.

“I would like to think we had a good relationship as Chairman and Manager. Under Mark’s stewardship, Brentford have been a pleasure to watch and I am sure all Bees fans will remember for many years to come some of the best matches we have seen over the past 18 months.

“Mark and David have helped develop the football that Brentford have become known for. I wish both Mark and David all the best for the future and they will always be welcome at Griffin Park.”
