The 19-year-old striker has been included in Juha Malinen’s initial 18-man squad for Finland’s potentially decisive Under-21 European Championship qualifiers against Denmark and Poland over the next ten days. The Finns head to Aalborg on Friday 7 September, kick-off 5pm, before hosting The Poles four days later in Helsinki, kick-off 4.30pm.
Marcus has enjoyed a breakthrough season so far in West London, netting on his professional debut against Southend United in the Carabao Cup and making his first start in the Sky Bet Championship away at Blackburn Rovers last weekend. The striker signed a new three-year contract with Brentford in February and went on to net 21 times for Brentford B last season.
Finland currently sit third in Group Three of qualifying, trailing their upcoming opponents Denmark and Poland by four and five points respectively, with four games left to play. With only the top side automatically qualifying, and the best four runners-up heading into the Play-Offs, the Finns will need a strong showing this week to keep their hopes alive.
Marcus has earned 16 caps in total for his nation at Under-18 and Under-19 level, scoring nine goals, three of which have come in his last three international outings.
