Louis Lancaster believes that the Youth Team's first victory of the season is coming despite falling to a third defeat in a row against Barnet.

The youth team boss was disappointed with the mistakes which led to Barnet's goals but thinks that the performance his side showed gives them lots of optimism for the season.

"I feel sorry for the lads. We've worked hard all week and while the result didn't go our way, the performance was much better," said Louis.

"I think it has just come down to mistakes. We made mistakes and they punished us whereas they made mistakes and we didn't punish them.

"I said to them at half time that I know you are disappointed but the game is there. There was 45 minutes of hard work but we were only 2-1 down so we did put the pressure on but once again they were making mistakes that we weren't punishing."

"We went 3-4-3 for the last 20 minutes. We put Stefan Tomasevic up there to try to use his height for any knock downs but it just wasn't to be."

"The lads are upset but I said to them to get their heads up. The result wasn't there but the performance was so hopefully with a hard week of training next week we'll marry the two and have a good performance and the right result next Saturday at Colchester."

The Youth Team dominated proceedings for much of the game but Louis thinks that they needed to show more patience in possession against a Barnet side which was content to sit off when Brentford had the ball.

"I think the lads were getting a bit confused," said Louis.

"We want to dominate possession of the ball. We would have the ball in our half and go across the pitch once, go across the pitch twice and when they can't go in their half they would force it.

"We said to them we are happy to keep it for longer periods. There will be gaps and then you can start to introduce it. If we go in there and it doesn't work then we can go back but I think it was much better today and thats why I think we dominated the ball.

Louis admitted that there was still work to be done to eradicate the errors which are costing the Youth Team dear at the moment.

"We can just work on them in the week. Part of it is their decision making.

"We focus on it a lot because they are turning into players, playing sloppy passes so all we can do is concentrate, work on it in the week in training and bring it to their attention."

The club has secured the services of Chelsea youngster Walter Figueira on work experience and he is someone Louis thinks will be an asset to the team over the coming weeks.

"Walter's quick, he's powerful and he's sharp. We put him on the left and I thought he was quite dangerous. He's got a good head on him so he can play but at the same time he can take players on so his play can be quite un-predictable."
