Both schools represented Brentford FC Community Sports Trust at the event and proudly wore Brentford’s crest as they joined children representing the likes of Arsenal and Crystal Palace. 14 professional football clubs – from across the capital – came together for the first time to encourage children to become more active and take up running.

Involvement by professional football clubs was masterminded by London United: a unique partnership between 15 professional football clubs that aims to tackle key health and social issues affecting Londoners.

Pupils from the running event are already part of the Super Movers and Premier League Primary Stars initiative, which inspires children to become more active throughout their school day and enhance their learning.

And the school children were certainly inspired when they saw running legend Sir Mo Farah on the start line. The quadruple Olympic champion joined hundreds of children on The Mall to cheer on runners before joining the final family wave himself and jogging to the Finish Line in front of Buckingham Palace alongside his awe-struck fans.

“It’s great to be here helping to get the kids active,” said Farah. “It’s really special for them to be able to run on this course and it’s important for people like me to be here.

“For me, growing up, seeing my idols and role models close up was important and they’re all here running on the same course as the marathon. It’s a special thing.”

Eleven-year-old Saraa Kaur was very happy too after having a selfie with Britain’s distance star before her run, perfect inspiration to complete the course with her mum, Rajwant.

“It was really nice to have Mo there,” said Rajwant afterwards. “It’s a great way to get the kids into it, and it’s lovely to be able to do this event together.”

As well as their participation in the Vitality Westminster Mile, children and young people were also encouraged to join in with the Super Movers activity at the Vitality Wellness Festival on in Green Park. This included a main stage activity by Super Movers ambassador Radzi Chinyanganya that also featured the Premier League trophy.
