Ryan Trevitt scored a late winner on Saturday to maintain Exeter City’s place at the top of the Sky Bet League One table.

Following a goalless opening 75 minutes at Burton Albion, Trevitt found space on the edge of the box to fire home the only goal of the game and keep the Grecians at the summit on goal difference.

Trevitt played the full 90 minutes at Pirelli Stadium, just as he had done in midweek when Exeter got past Stevenage on penalties in the Carabao Cup second round. The midfielder netted in the shootout as Exeter set up a tie at home to Luton Town later this month.

The Grecians have a visit from Leyton Orient to look forward to in the third tier this weekend.

The side directly behind Exeter are Bolton Wanderers after they, and Paris Maghoma, beat 10-man Derby County on Saturday.

The two sides traded first-half penalties at Toughsheet Community Stadium before visiting keeper Joe Wildsmith saw red three minutes after the restart for handling outside his box.

The winner came with 25 minutes to play as Tyrese Fornah deflected a right-wing cross straight into his own net.

Maghoma came off the bench late on for the Trotters, just as in midweek during their 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat at home to Middlesbrough.

Bolton host Salford City in the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday night with their weekend visit to Shrewsbury Town off due to international call-ups.

Fin Stevens and Oxford United were on the end of late heartbreak in their 2-1 defeat at home to Port Vale.

A drab affair caught light in the final half hour with Mark Harris shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident, 12 minutes before Alex Iacovitti’s opener for Vale.

Greig Leigh equalised three minutes into stoppage-time for the hosts but was then, himself, sent off for a second yellow card offense. The nine men looked like holding out until Stevens gave away a 99th-minute penalty, converted by Alfie Devine.

Oxford are at Northampton Town on Tuesday night in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Matt Cox and Tristan Crama both played the full 90 minutes as Josh Grant’s 94th-minute goal rescued a point for Bristol Rovers at home to Lincoln City.

Grant cancelled out Adam Jackson’s opener for the Imps to leave Rovers 17th in the table, with six points from their opening half dozen games.

The Gas host Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Daniel Oyegoke came off the bench twice for Bradford City last week. He was a late introduction in their penalty shootout victory over Wrexham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, despite himself missing in the shootout, and played the final 10 minutes of their goalless draw at Mansfield Town on Saturday.

The Bantams are live on Sky Sports this Saturday lunchtime, at home to Grimsby Town.

Ben Winterbottom kept his second consecutive clean sheet for Welling United to stretch their unbeaten National League run to three games.

The Wings had the better of their home game against St Albans City but couldn’t find the goal to ensure a third straight league win.

Welling travel to Worthing on Tuesday before hosting Bath City at the weekend.
