Jota and Eibar had an afternoon to forget on Saturday as they were beaten 4-0 by Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu to continue their miserable run in La Liga. The damage was done in the opening 45 minutes as Real netted through James, Lucas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jese to wrap up the points. Jota was withdrawn at half-time as Eibar extended their run to just one win in 12 and dropped to tenth place in the table.

There was better news for Mark Smith as he kept his sixth clean sheet in 11 matches to move Hampton and Richmond Borough within touching distance of promotion to the National League South after a 3-0 victory at Farnborough. Eddie Hutchinson put The Beavers ahead after 14 minutes, Hampton’s 100th goal of the season, and that advantage was doubled just before the break by Brendan Kiernan. Moussa Diarra half-volleyed home a third two minutes into the second-half as Hampton remain four points clear of second-placed East Thurrock United. Alan Dowson’s side will be promoted next Saturday if they better the results of Bognor Regis and East Thurrock.

Daniel O’Shaughnessy was not involved as FC Midtjylland drew 1-1 away at Viborg FF in the Danish Superliga. Jonas Kamper gave the hosts a second-half lead that was cancelled out midway through the half by substitute Paul Onuachu. The point leaves FCM fourth in the table, three points behind second-placed AaB with nine matches left to play.
