Jack O'Connell scored his first goal for Rochdale since rejoining them after his January move to Brentford but it wasn't enough as Dale lost 2-1 to Sheffield United at Spotlands.

Nigel Clough's Blades took the lead through Marc McNulty midway through the first-half and doubled that advantage on the hour as John Brayford squirmed a shot past Josh Lillis.

O'Connell, playing his fourth game since rejoining Dale, headed home with a quarter of an hour to go but United held on to leave Rochdale 13th in Sky Bet League One , four points off sixth place but with a game in hand.

Next up for Keith Hill's side is a trip to league leaders Bristol City this Saturday.

In the Ryman Premier Division Mark Smith helped Hampton and Richmond Borough upset the form book with a 2-1 win over league leaders Maidstone United at The Beveree.

The Beavers took the lead after 14 minutes through Jamie Calvin and that lead was increased as top scorer Charlie Moone scored before half-time.

Frantz Tchongang then saw red for Hampton before Billy Bricknell set up a nervous last 20 minutes by halving the arrears.

However Mark Smith proved unbeatable in the home goal pulling off a number of fine saves as Hampton held on to draw clear of the relegation zone and end a run of three straight defeats ahead of Saturday's match away at VCD Athletic.

There is a full programme of loan action this weekend as Will Grigg and MK Dons travel to Coventry City while Alfie Mawson's Wycombe Wanderers host Stevenage.

Kieron Morris and Tyrell Miller-Rodney will hope to be involved as Maidenhead United host Whitehawk and in Denmark Montell Moore and FC Midtjelland U19s travel to Esbjerg on Saturday.
