Chiedozie Ogbene made his first start for Exeter City in the Checkatrade Trophy this week. The Brentford attacker is on loan at the Devon side and started in their 2-0 win over West Ham United’s Under-21 side on Tuesday night. A floodlight failure in the first half could not stop Exeter taking a two-goal lead at the break and the saw the game out after the interval.
Exeter had previously drawn with Yeovil Town in the competition and will need to avoid defeat against Bristol Rovers in November to reach the knockout stages. The game was brought forward from October so Chiedozie was the only Brentford player in action in the competition this week. Cheltenham Town, where Tom Field is on loan, Forest Green Rovers, where Theo Archibald is spending the season, and Bristol Rovers, where Jack Bonham is on a temporary basis, will be back in action in the trophy in the coming weeks, albeit Tom played in a training ground friendly on Tuesday.
All three will, however, have league games on the horizon this weekend. Exeter face Port Vale in Sky Bet League Two, Forest Green travel to Macclesfield Town and Cheltenham play table topping Lincoln City. In League One, Bristol Rovers lay Bradford City.
Stoke City, where Ryan Woods is on loan, were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Ryan was cup tied after playing for Brentford and sat out as Stoke slipped to a 3-0 deficit against Nottingham Forest. They mounted a comeback and recovered to 3-2 down but could not get the extra goal. Stoke play Rotherham United in the Championship on Saturday.
Boreham Wood, where goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe and striker Justin Shaibu are on loan, were in action at Eastleigh on Tuesday night. Both sat on the bench as Boreham Wood lost 1-0. The Hertfordshire side play Harrogate Town on Saturday in their latest Vanarama National League match.
