Dom Thompson’s Swindon Town picked up a much-needed three points on Tuesday as they beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 at The County Ground. Brett Pitman grabbed the only goal of the game in the 17th minute as he headed in from close range, but Town were reduced to 10 men when Dion Conroy was sent off on 65 minutes. Dom got another 90 minutes under his belt as the side held out for the three points, and they are now out of the relegation zone before taking on Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
There was no midweek action for Ellery Balcombe, with his Doncaster side now preparing to take on another in-form team in Oxford United on Saturday.
As for AFC Wimbledon, Jaakko Oksanen played the full 90 minutes in a Quarter-Final tie with Oxford United in the Papa John’s Trophy. The U’s ran out 3-1 winners over Jaakko and his teammates with Sam Winnall netting twice whilst Olamide Shodipo grabbed the third to make it 3-0. Ethan Chislett grabbed Wimbledon’s only goal and the side will now focus on a trip to Wigan Athletic on Saturday as they return to League action.
In Sky Bet League Two Arthur Read played the second half for Stevenage as they came up against Exeter City at The Lamex Stadium. It would be The Grecians who would claim the points with the only goal of the game coming from Rory McArdle on 28 minutes, and despite their tireless efforts, Stevenage were unable to get back into the game.
Joe Adams could earn his Grimsby Town debut on Saturday as they take on Newport County away from home. The Brentford B man recently sealed a loan move until the end of the 2020/21 season with the Lincolnshire side and he will aim to help them climb away from the relegation zone.
On foreign soil, Halil Dervişoğlu came on as an injury time substitute as his Galatasaray side claimed a 3-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir. Henry Onyekuru opened the scoring before Ryan Donk and Mustafa Mohamed also grabbed goals to make it a convincing scoreline. They currently sit second in the Turkish Super Lig, three points behind Fenerbahçe S.K.
There was no midweek action for Patrik Gunnarsson or Joel Valencia, the former whose Silkeborg side don't play until 14 February, whilst Joel's Legia Warsaw play on Saturday against Rakow.
