Aaron Pressley scored twice for Accrington Stanley last Tuesday to help them through to the Papa John’s Trophy semi-final, following a penalty shootout victory over Lincoln City.
The striker opened his Stanley account with a cool finish after 36 minutes and then grabbed a second from the penalty spot with a quarter of an hour to play.
Tom Hopper scored twice for Lincoln, the second coming late on, to force the game to penalties. Pressley was successful in the shootout as Accrington went through 3-1 and set up a last-four tie against Bolton Wanderers next month.
Then on Saturday, Pressley was forced off after 39 minutes during Accrington’s 2-0 Sky Bet League One win over Bristol Rovers due to a foot injury, meaning he is touch and go for Tuesday night's Emirates FA Cup third-round replay at home to Boreham Wood.
19th-placed Stanley then travel to Barnsley in the third tier on Saturday.
Sky Bet League One
Myles Peart-Harris played the full 90 minutes of Forest Green Rovers’ 1-1 draw at Exeter City.
Jordan Garrick put Rovers ahead just after the break, but Jevani Brown levelled for Exeter with 15 minutes to play.
Forest Green remain bottom of League One despite the draw, but have a respite from their relegation battle with tonight’s re-arranged FA Cup third-round tie at home to Birmingham City.
Then on Saturday, they host fellow strugglers MK Dons.
Sky Bet League Two
Lachlan Brook played 66 minutes of Crewe Alexandra’s 1-1 draw at Mansfield Town.
Crewe’s Kelvin Mellor netted 10 minutes after the restart to cancel out George Maris’ first-half effort, as the points were shared at the One Call Stadium.
The draw leaves Crewe 17th ahead of their weekend visit from Play-Off chasing Stockport County.
There was no action for our other loan players in the fourth tier, with Nathan Young-Coombes not involved in AFC Wimbledon’s goalless draw at home to Bradford City, while Ellery Balcombe and Crawley Town had their game at home to Doncaster Rovers postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Both will hope to be involved this weekend as the Dons make the trip west to Newport County, while Crawley head to Sutton United.
Sky Bet Championship
Neither Halil Dervisoglu nor Tariqe Fosu made their respective matchday squads over the weekend.
League leaders Burnley needed an 82nd-minute goal from Jordan Beyer to see off Coventry City at home, recording their seventh straight Championship victory in the process. They are now five points clear of Sheffield United, who beat Fosu's Stoke 3-1 Bramall Lane.
Burnley host in-from West Bromwich Albion on Friday night, while 20th-placed Stoke City are at home to Reading.
On the continent
Joel Valencia remains on the injury list for De Graafschap, meaning he missed a pair of big wins this week over Quick in the Dutch Cup and against Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie.
11th in the table, De Graafschap head to Almere on Friday night.
