Despite putting in a strong performance Lily Dalton wasn’t able to help Brentford Women’s First Team as they saw defeat against Denham United in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North on Sunday afternoon.
Dalton was happy to make her first full start for Karleigh Osborne’s side but was left disappointed following the result of the game.
Karleigh Osborne’s side hit the bar and had a penalty saved in the first half of the match, but it was Denham who took the lead against the run of play on the hour mark after a pinpoint free kick from Amie Hewitt who arrowed the ball into the top left corner.
Speaking on the match, Dalton said: “It was a frustrating game, I felt like we were definitely the better side and we had a lot of opportunities that we could of and probably should have scored.
“Everyone worked really hard so other than the result we can be happy with our performance.”
The 19-year-old made her debut for Brentford in the previous game against Sutton United after signing for the Bees on a dual-contract with national league side Maidenhead United.
Although the Women’s first team didn’t get the result they wanted, Dalton was solid at the back for the visitors and could be satisfied with her own performance.
Dalton was strong at the back for Brentford
“It was a tough game, I’m still trying to adjust to playing as a centre-back as I’m used to playing as a full-back but I feel that I’m getting used to how the head coach wants me to play,” said Dalton.
“I thought I did well, one of the things that attracted me to join the club was the style of play and how the whole team works together so I think as time goes on it will get easier for me.”
The defender goes on to explain how her first few weeks at the club have been and the impression she has got since signing for the club.
“All of the players have been really friendly and it’s been great to get to know everyone, they have made it easy for me to settle in so I’m thankful for that.
“The coaches have also been really good with me; they give me a lot of confidence to perform and have shown belief in me which has been great.
“I feel that I’m taking things away from every training session and believe that Brentford is a great place for the development of my game.”
Dalton will be looking to pick up her first win with her new team next weekend as the Bees face Richmond Park in the quarter-finals of the Capital Cup this Sunday.
