Brentford Lifeline Society have agreed to cover half the cost of a brand new set of rain covers for the Griffin Park pitch and water removal vehicle – better known as a blotter.

Brentford FC purchased the covers and the blotter earlier this month.

A total of £24,000 was spent and Lifeline will put £12,000 towards the cost.

The covers were bought after Brentford’s Sky Bet League One match against Crawley Town on Saturday February 8 was postponed as the Griffin Park pitch was waterlogged.

Heavy rain fall over the previous six to eight weeks had left the ground saturated with nowhere for water to drain.

They were used to keep water off the pitch ahead of the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers last week and ensured it went ahead.

Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “It became apparent that in order to keep the Griffin Park pitch in the best condition possible, the Club needed to purchase pitch covers and the blotter.

“This was a large unbudgeted expense but one that was needed in both the short and long term.

“Lifeline’s contribution towards the cost was a massive help.

“I would like to thank the Lifeline Committee for agreeing to the expenditure and to all members for paying their £2 a week to make it happen.

“Lifeline has done a massive amount for Brentford Football Club over a number of years and their funding contributions are very helpful.

“I hope members and all fans can see where their money goes.”
