THE RECENT HISTORY

Swindon Town have spent the last 12 years flitting between Leagues One and Two, but will be looking towards challenging for the Championship this campaign.

Promotion last season rectified the surprise League One relegation in 2011.

Since their relegation from the second tier in 2000, they have reached the Play-Offs twice, in 2004 and 2010.

The latter Play-Off campaign saw them beaten 1-0 in the final at Wembley to Millwall.

THE MANAGER

Paolo Di Canio made a successful start to his managerial career by winning the League Two title last season.

The often controversial Italian almost led Town to a league and cup double, but they lost 2-0 to Chesterfield in the LDV Vans Trophy final at Wembley Stadium.

His playing career was a stellar one, playing for Lazio, Juventus, Napoli, AC Milan, Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham United, Charlton Athletic, finally returning to his beloved Lazio before ending up at Cisco Roma, retiring in 2008.

THE TOP SCORER

Former Bee Alan Connell finished as Swindon Town's leading goalscorer last season with thirteen goals, eleven of those in League Two.

The 28-year-old striker started at Ipswich Town before moves to AFC Bournemouth, Torquay United, Hereford United and then Brentford in 2007.

He finished his first season at Griffin Park as top goalscorer before returning to AFC Bournemouth in August 2008.

A 25-goal tally for Grimsby Town in the Conference persuaded Paulo Di Canio to take him to Wiltshire last summer.

THE KEY MEN

There have been several experienced signings made by Paulo Di Canio this summer.

Joining Swindon Town this season are Gary Roberts (Huddersfield Town), Andrew Williams (Yeovil Town), James Collins (Shrewsbury Town), Alan Navarro (Brighton and Hove Albion), Tommy Miller (Huddersfield Town), Jay McEvilly (Barnsley), and Troy Archibald-Henville (Exeter City).

Having won promotion, he released Callum Kennedy, Lander Gabilondo, Abdul Said, Mark Scott, Phil Smith, Etienne Esajas, and Mehdi Kerrouche.

Striker Paul Benson will be vying with Connell to be The Robins leading goalscorer this term.

The 32-year-old's impact was instant since arriving from Charlton Athletic in January where his career has stuttered following a move from Dagenham and Redbridge.

He scored 11 league goals in twenty two appearances, as well as hitting the winner against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup Third Round.
