THE GROUND
London Road Stadium
London Road
Peterborough
PE2 8AL
London Road is marking its centenary this season and is older than Peterborough United, the club that uses it.
The stadium was built in 1913 and has been home to The Posh since they were formed in 1934.
It has previously been home to the now defunct Peterborough and Fletton United.
The stadium is one of the more traditional in League One with terraces at either end of the ground.
The Main Stand was redeveloped in the early 1990s and a new two-tiered stand was built on the opposite side of the ground.
London Road now holds 15,315 fans and away supporters use the Moy’s End terrace and a section of the Main Stand.
There is room for nearly 3,500 fans to stand and around 1,800 to sit if required.
THE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
It is approximately 86 miles from Griffin Park to London Road by car.
The usual route would be via the A1, A1139 and A1260.
Drivers will then turn on to the A15, London Road, which leads to the ground.
There is no longer any parking at the stadium but there are car parks opposite the stadium.
The nearest station is Peterborough, which is a stop on the main line from London to the North East and Scotland.
Trains from London King’s Cross stop at Peterborough and Bees fans can use fast trains – East Coast Trains services – or slower First Capital Connect services.
East Midlands Trains services, Greater Anglia trains and CrossCountry services also stop at Peterborough.
The Supporters’ Association will be running coaches to every game this season – details of times and prices will be announced in due course.
THE FIXTURES
Brentford will welcome Peterborough United to Griffin Park on Tuesday November 26, the first scheduled home Tuesday night League One match.
The Bees will travel to London Road on New Year’s Day, Wednesday January 1.
THE RECENT HISTORY
Every recent season seems to have been one of high drama for Peterborough United and they will be looking for promotion from the third tier for the third time in five years.
However, regular promotion from this level means The Posh have not been able to establish themselves in The Championship.
After spending two years in the second tier in the early 1990s, Peterborough became a yo-yo team, moving between the fourth and third tiers.
After three years in what had become League Two, they were promoted under manager Darren Ferguson and with entrepreneur Darragh McAnthony as Chairman.
They went straight through to The Championship in 2009 but came straight back down again.
They won the League One Play-Offs in 2011 and finished 18th in The Championship the following year.
Last season was nearly one of a marvellous escape from relegation.
They started with seven straight losses and had only 13 points from their first 21 games.
But there was a massive improvement in the second half of the season and a run of two defeats in 16 from mid-January gave them a chance to escape.
Two defeats in the last three games put paid to those hopes and Peterborough were relegated by just a point, a last minute goal from Crystal Palace condemning them to defeat on the final day of the season and sending them down.
THE MANAGER
Darren Ferguson is in his second spell as manager of Peterborough United.
The son of former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson took over at London Road in January 2007 and took The Posh to promotion from the fourth tier in 2008 before making it back-to-back promotions a year later.
He left Peterborough in November 2009 and had a short spell in charge at Preston North End before going back to Peterborough in January 2011.
He got The Posh out of the third tier that season and kept them in The Championship before relegation last season.
Ferguson had a career as a midfield player, starting out at Manchester United.
He played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and spent eight years at Wrexham.
Strikers Dwight Gayle and Lee Tomlin both scored 13 goals for Peterborough last season.
Gayle scored all 13 of his in The Championship while Tomlin hit 11 of his in the league.
Gayle joined Peterborough on loan from Dagenham and Redbridge in November 2012 and made the move permanent in January.
He had joined Dagenham in the summer of 2011 and scored 42 goals for Bishop’s Stortford in the Blue Square Bet North on a season long loan before returning to East London and scoring seven goals in 20 games.
He was then snapped up by Peterborough.
Tomlin joined Peterborough from Rushden and Diamonds in 2010 and had his most prolific season to date last term – scoring his 13 goals in 44 games.
THE KEY MEN
Peterborough will be keeping the nucleus of the squad that came close to keeping them in The Championship last season.
Austrian goalkeeper Robert Olejnik was ever-present in the second tier for The Posh last season while Mark Little played 40 games in defence, Nat Knight-Percival played 31 and Gabriel Zakuani played 33.
Michael Bostwick, who joined Peterborough from Stevenage, scored five goals in 39 games from midfield and Grant McCann scored eight in 40 appearances.
Strikers Gayle and Tomlin were the focus of the attack while winger Tommy Rowe scored five goals in 31 games.
Midfield player Jack Payne, who played 14 games for The Posh on loan from Gillingham, has signed on permanently at London Road.
George Boyd spent the end of last season on loan at Hull City and joined the newly-promoted Premier League side.
Little has yet to sign new contracts and Gayle is the subject of transfer speculation so much could change at London Road before August.
