Brentford's longest serving player, Kevin O'Connor, has signed up to the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 to raise money for the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, and you can join him.
Kevin has joined one of the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust relay teams who will work as a team to complete the 100 miles course starting in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and finishing on The Mall in Central London.
In between, the route travels through London before heading out into the beautiful Surrey countryside.
Ride London-Surrey 100 is one of a number of legacy event created by the London 2012 Olympics and will see 25,000 riders take part in various closed road cycling activities over the course of three days.
Kevin, who has made 501 appearances for the Bees over a 15 year career at Griffin Park, said:“I am excited to be taking part but don’t quite know what I have let myself in for yet.
"The first target is to get a bike.”
Kevin’s bike problem has now been solved with the kind support of EVANS cycles in Brentford High Street, who have become sponsors of the Brentford team for the event, as have Reliable Networks.
There are still spaces for supporters to join Kevin and the Community Sports Trust team both as an individual and as part of a relay team.
Anyone aged 16 or over can apply to take part as part of Team Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.
Distances range from 25 to 100 miles either as an individual rider, doing the whole route, or as part of a peloton relay team.
There are six individual places available and there is also space on the three four-man peloton relay teams, one of which will contain Kevin.
The relay peloton is a great way to get involved, particularly if you do not want to ride the whole race and in advance of the race the Trust team will organise group meetings and rides to create a team atmosphere.
All riders, including Kevin, will be set a fundraising target minimum of £500 per rider for the 100 mile ride and £250 per rider in the peloton team event.
There is also a donations page where supporters can show their support by donating to Kevin and Team Brentford FC CST
The Trust will be producing a special edition sponsored Team BFCCST cycling shirt that will feature the names of our business sponsors.
All riders will receive a commemorative shirt and will be invited on to the Griffin Park pitch during the 2015/16 season for an official presentation.
Businesses are invited to contact Lee Doyle to discuss this opportunity and as part of the package you could nominate one of your employees to take part.
Business packages start at £500 and include a place on the team and sponsorship opportunities although places are limited.
All funds raised through RIDE 100 will be invested back into Trust projects that support our variety of programmes tackling unemployment, disability, health, education and social inclusion.
