Kevin O’Connor was left a frustrated figure after his side lost 4-3 to Manchester City on Tuesday afternoon.

The B Team Head Coach spoke to iFollow after the final whistle had gone at the Etihad Campus in Manchester.

”I was fairly pleased with the second half,” said Kevin, “but the first half we were very below par. We said to them at half-time that there were too many individual mistakes that lead to a poor team performance.

”It was frustrating and overall I’m disappointed today because I felt we should have got something from the game with the way we usually play. Today we were definitely below par.”

The second half saw Brentford create a lot more chances and they could have snuck an equaliser at the end when Theo Archibald hit the crossbar. Kevin acknowledged that it was frustrating not to complete the comeback.

”It was a little bit, but I honestly don’t think we deserved it. We gave away four goals and if you give away four goals you shouldn’t get anything out of the game. So ultimately I think the result was right but I think we could have got a draw.”

Kevin told us what he saw as the main differences out on the field between City and The Bees.

”I think they had individual qualities, which we saw. Their number seven, Rabbi Matondo, was very good on the right wing.

“It was more about us and the way we didn’t hit the levels we usually do. The intensity was missing in the first half and it was ultimately frustrating.”

Marcus Forss struck a brace to take him to 20 goals for the season, we asked Kevin about his chances in the First Team.

”He did well, especially in the second half. He got the revival going, he scored two good goals today and he was a threat all game. Credit to him.

”I’m sure Dean Smith does take notice of these things and hopefully he’ll get a chance sooner rather than later.”

Kevin then touched upon Brentford B’s upcoming match with Man City’s Under-23 squad at Griffin Park next Tuesday evening, 8 May.

”It will be an even harder game. I think they’ll bring their older boys so we have to be on our game next week to have any chance. We’ve said that to the boys after today’s game. Hopefully this will do us good in the long run for that game next week.

”We need to play our way and play at our intensity. We play with intensity and we’re not a bad team. I keep saying to the boys, which they know themselves, when we don’t we are average. Today, we were average.”

Asked whether he is looking to end the season on a high, he said plainly: “Always.”
