The Club was saddened to learn of the death of former long serving defender Ken Horne, who died this week, aged 89.

He was recently inducted into the Brentford FC Hall of Fame in recognition of his 239 league and cup appearances for Brentford over an 11 year period between 1950 and 1961. Ken had been recently been ill but was well enough to receive his Hall of Fame induction by Director Donald Kerr at his South West London home last month.

Ken, who began his career with non-league Stapenhill FC, made his Brentford debut in a 0-0 draw with Leicester City at Griffin Park on 18 November 1950 after arriving that summer on a free transfer from Blackpool. Playing at either right half or either full back position, he would become a regular in the sides managed by Bill Dodgin Senior and Malcolm MacDonald throughout the 1950s.

He was awarded a joint benefit match by the club in February 1956 with team mates George Bristow, Reg Newton, and Billy Sperrin, against an International Managers XI, which featured his former Blackpool team mate Stanley Matthews who travelled down especially to play.

He departed Griffin Park in the summer of 1961, joining Southern League Dover, where he saw out his footballing career. After his retirement, he helped Brentford reform their Youth Team in the early 1970s after it was disbanded in 1967.

The Club sends its deepest condolences to Ken’s family and friends at this time.
