Brentford Women's First-Team Manager Karleigh Osborne was in high praise of his players after their FA Cup triumph on Sunday afternoon.

Osborne’s side came out 5-4 winners against Woodley United in the First Qualifying round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, a hat-trick from Chloe Logie and second half strikes from Kirsty Matthews and Sophie Troth ensured the victory.

“We made the game more exciting than it needed to be,” said Osborne. “I thought our first half performance was fantastic, we controlled the game really well and took our chances well, I was really happy with the determination that was shown throughout to keep bouncing back after certain knock backs.”

Brentford found themselves a goal down 13 minutes in after the away side were awarded a penalty but a hat-trick within the first half an hour from number nine, Logie, gave the Bees some breathing space.

Osbourne continued: “It was a good team performance, despite the early goal I’m happy with the reaction I saw from the girls. Chloe was fantastic for us today she is a natural finisher, always working her socks off in training and I’m over the moon that we have her as our striker.”

Woodley United found the net early into the second half adding pressure on the Bees but goals from Matthews and a wonder strike from Troth was enough for Brentford to see out the game.

The manager said, “We want to make sure everyone is doing the right jobs from the off and implementing themselves as early as possible continuing that throughout the game, but overall, I’m happy with positive attitudes that I saw to keep pushing for goals."

The side will face Abingdon United in the Second Qualifying Round of the competition with Osborne excited for the challenge.

“We're very happy to be in the next round of the FA Cup, Abingdon will be a good test, they are a good team, there’s a lot of history in this competition and we are looking to have a good run in it”.
