Brentford Women’s First Team left Fetcham Grove with all three points after four first-half goals saw off Leatherhead Women in the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North on Sunday afternoon.

Following the victory Manager, Karleigh Osborne gave his thoughts on his team’s performance.

He said: “It was a great result for us, there was some really good performances across the team, and we scored some great goals.

“Leatherhead are a good side, they play some nice football and they had us on the back foot in the first 10 minutes but we grew back into the game and were clinical when our chances came.”

Despite being put under pressure by the hosts in the opening fazes of the game, the Bees opened the scoring on 24 minutes through Kirsty Matthews.

The number 15 replaced top goal scorer, Chloe Logie as striker, due to the number nine unfortunately being ruled out through injury and showed brilliant commitment to press Leatherhead keeper, Lara Burrows stealing the ball from her before tapping home into an empty net.

Speaking on Matthews, Osborne said: “She was fantastic, I loved the desire she showed to get her goal, I’m really pleased for her.

“We had a chat recently about playing with more freedom and getting back to playing with a smile on her face and she did exactly that which was great to see.”

It took just two minutes for the visitors to get their second of the game when an exquisite ball from stand-in Captain, Chloe Webb found Demi Edwards at the far post who was able to pass the ball home from close range.

Two unbelievable long-range strikes from Edwards sealed her first-half hat-trick with the number 20 oozing with confidence as she helped her side go into the break with a four goal lead.

Talking on Edwards’ terrific display, Osborne explained: “Demi was unbelievable, she’s a real talent and has a fire about her which I love, I want to see her continue to go from strength to strength.

Edwards vs Leatherhead

“She’s a great character so it’s important that I let her be who she is, it’s great to see how committed she is, and I can’t ask for any more from her."

The Manager was left pleased with how his side reacted coming off the back of their disappointing defeat to title rivals, Dorking Wanderers last weekend.

Osborne said: “I wanted a reaction from the team, and they delivered that, there were a few changes in the squad but the players that came in done really well which was brilliant.

“Ultimately we took a setback last weekend but we came and put that right against Leatherhead so we just need to focus on ourselves and make sure we continue to do the right things.”
