Kamohelo Mokotjo admitted that Brentford "weren’t patient enough" following defeat to Norwich City on Saturday afternoon. The Bees fell behind during the opening stages thanks to James Maddison's wonder strike, and despite seeing plenty of the ball couldn't breach the visitors' defence during a testing afternoon at Griffin Park.

“It was a very frustrating game," Kamohelo told iFollow Brentford. “They set up with five defenders and two central midfielders defending very deep, but it was our job to break them down. We weren’t patient enough on the ball today; in order to break down a side like Norwich you have to wait for the right moment.

“It was a fantastic goal that they scored but we still had enough time to equalise. Scoring early allowed them to sit deep. They’re an experienced side who know that the result is all that matters. They did what they had to do for the 85 minutes after they scored – we’ll use today as a lesson.”

The former FC Twente man refused to blame the absence of Romaine Sawyers for Brentford’s lack of cutting edge in the final third:

“He’s a very strong, powerful and intelligent player. Romaine’s been great for us this season but we have other players who can also do the job. We hope to have him back as soon as possible.”

The South African international insisted that Brentford will travel to Derby County next Saturday full of confidence despite slipping to their first home defeat in the Sky Bet Championship since the opening day of the season.

“We can take a lot of good things away from today’s performance. Games such as these -when teams sit back and counter us because they know they have no chance going one-versus-one against us – need to be used as a lesson. We know we can do harm to a lot of teams and we will do again in the future.”
