Brentford’s Spanish attacking midfield player Jota has received special recognition from the Football League.

The 23-year-old, whose full name is José Peleteiro Ramallo, joined The Bees from Real Club Celta de Vigo for an undisclosed fee in mid-August.

He has played 19 games for The Bees, 15 of them from the start, and scored six goals.

The last of those goals proved to be the winner as The Bees beat Cardiff City in South Wales on Saturday, Brentford’s seventh win in eight Sky Bet Championship matches and Jota’s fourth goal in his last four games.

It was enough to earn him a place in the Football League Team of the Week.

The team, published on the Football League website, is drawn from the performances over the previous seven days in all three Sky Bet Football League divisions.

Jota – who also set up Alex Pritchard for Brentford’s first goal – was named in the selection this week.

However, Pritchard – set up Jota’s goal and one for Andre Gray as well as scoring – missed out, as did Will Grigg, on loan at Milton Keynes Dons, who bagged a brace this weekend.

It is only the fifth time this season Brentford, third in the Sky Bet Championship, have had players in the Football League Team of the Week.

Jake Bidwell was selected after setting up two goals as The Bees beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-2 in September and Jonathan Douglas was named after scoring twice in a week, against Watford and Leeds United, just at the start of October.

After The Bees beat Nottingham Forest and Millwall away in the space of three days at the start of November Gray, who scored three goals in the two wins was selected, and Brentford Manager Mark Warburton was named as best boss that week.

Youngster Alfie Mawson, on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, was named earlier this month after scoring his first professional goal in a win at Hartlepool United.
