Josh Clarke said he still had moments when he couldn’t believe what was happening to him.
The teenage winger signed his second professional contract with Brentford last week.
The speedy right sided attacker was promoted to Brentford’s First Team Squad from the Development Squad towards the end of the 2013/14 season and made his Football League debut against Colchester United in Brentford’s penultimate game of the campaign.
The 19-year-old has had a meteoric rise since joining The Bees in 2011.
Prior to signing a two-year scholarship at the age of 17 he was effectively playing park football.
He completed his scholarship last summer and signed a professional contract, as part of the Development Squad.
Josh made his First Team debut in the Capital One Cup defeat to Derby County last August and also featured in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Peterborough United in October before making his league debut in April.
He has been an unused substitute on two more occasions.
Josh, who will be 20 in in July, said: “It is brilliant, considering where I have come from.
“I just have to keep going and try to fulfil my dreams.
“I want to keep working hard and see what happens.
“I am still thinking ‘wow, is this really happening to me?’.
“As a young boy growing up I wanted to play football.
“I didn’t know where I would go, I got my head down and it happened.”
Josh described his league debut as an “excellent” moment.
He said he wanted the chance to show what he could do and added to do so in The Championship, after Brentford won promotion to the second tier, would be amazing.
“It was excellent,” said Josh.
“I was buzzing.
“I just want to play more and show everyone what I am capable of.
“I want the opportunity.
“It was a great feeling.
“To play in The Championship would be amazing, hopefully I can do that, and against the teams we will play.
“I want to show everyone what I can do.”
Josh was present for the end-of-season celebrations and said the memories will live with him forever.
He added the Brentford players had welcomed him to the First Team group.
“I have memories of what happened,” said Josh.
“They will always be with me.
“I didn’t really take part but it is a big thing.
“The lads are great to be around, I am a young player, if I need help I can ask.
“Training was brilliant, it is different, everything is about business, but it was good.”
Pre-season training will start later this month but Josh said he had been working on his game over the summer.
“I have been working hard off-season,” he said.
“I want to keep working hard and get a chance.
“I have been tightening up my game, working on my end product.
“I have been watching myself, seeing what I need to do and working on it.
“Hopefully that will pay off in games.”
