Development Squad midfield player Josh Laurent has left Brentford after a mutual agreement was reached for the termination of his contract. The 20-year-old has been with The Bees for just over a year after signing from Queens Park Rangers. His time at Brentford ended today, Monday 1 February, and he is now free to find another Club.
Josh made his professional debut earlier this season in the Capital One Cup defeat to Oxford United. He had a loan spell at Newport County and played four games for the Sky Bet League Two side, one from the start and three in the league. Josh also played nine games for Brentford’s Development Squad this season, scoring once, having made 12 appearances for The Bees in the Under-21 Professional Development League last term, scoring four goals.
Robert Rowan, Brentford FC Head of Football Operations, said: “We sat down with Josh last week and everyone agreed that it’s not really worked out the way we would have liked. Josh is nearly 21 years old so it’s important for him to be playing First Team football in order to develop and prolong his career as a professional footballer. Unfortunately, that opportunity was looking unlikely at Brentford so we agreed it was best for him to find another club.
“Josh always conducted himself very professionally and is well liked by the Under-21 players and staff. We would like to wish him good luck for the rest of his career.”
