Josh Clarke was delighted to make an impact as his goal set Brentford on their way to a first win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road since 1964. The winger converted Josh McEachran’s through ball just before half-time to send The Bees into the break with a one goal advantage. The 22-year-old said he went into the game wanting to make an impact and was delighted to do just that.

“Tonight is probably my best night in football,” Josh told Bees Player after the match. “I went there full of confidence and I wanted to get a goal or create something. I think we played well and created so many chances so I was delighted when I scored. I wanted to impact the game and I think I did that tonight. I was in the box and as soon as Josh McEachran gave me the ball I just had to turn and shoot with my left foot. Luckily it went in and I was delighted to get another goal. I am focussing and practicing on adding goals and assists to my game so hopefully I can do that in the coming games.”

After Josh’s second of the season had given The Bees a half-time lead it was the home side who started the second-half the better, putting pressure on Brentford’s backline. However, Dean Smith's side stood firm and went on to register their seventh clean sheet of the season which pleased Josh.

“QPR came out fast in the second-half and we had to defend,” said Josh. “We wanted the clean sheet so we had to focus, be organised, and communicate around each other. It is very important to defend as a team and a unit to get a clean sheet so we are happy with that.”

Last night’s game was the first in a double header of West London derbies with Fulham heading to Griffin Park next Friday night for another local affair. Josh said tonight’s win was a great win for the fans and will give the team a lot of confidence heading into next week’s game.

“I wanted to just play my game,” said Josh. “It was a big game tonight for the fans and for us. I just wanted to get out there with confidence, get on the ball, and create something. It will be another big game and we will go there full of confidence. Hopefully I can create something again. The fans gave me a lot of confidence tonight and hopefully they can get behind us next week and we can perform again.”
