New signing Jonas Lössl is convinced there is “something special” happening at Brentford. And the Danish goalkeeper is convinced the strong mentality and technical quality in the squad will give his new club the best chance of succeeding in the Premier League. Jonas, who has signed on loan from FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga, gave his first impressions of The Bees to the written media following his debut in the 4-1 FA Cup win at Port Vale.

“I’ve only been here just over a week but all the guys have told me there's something special here. Henrik Dalsgaard said that what you see from the outside is also what you get inside… he misses it I’m sure,” he said. “The atmosphere is special in the team, there’s some really good guys and the mentality is strong, and it's because of that they have had so much success in the Premier League.”

The former Huddersfield and Everton stopper said he had been welcomed into the squad “with open arms” and was relishing his return to England.

He said: “Often when you have international teams like this with people from a lot of cultures you tend to have cliques and groups, but there isn't anything like that here. Nobody is bigger than the team and you really get that sense. I’ve already spoken to most of the guys and you don't need somebody to take care of you – people stand there with open arms and just take care of you. It's pretty amazing.”

The 32-year-old 6ft 5 keeper admitted he was delighted to be back in England and thrust into the heat of a traditional Cup tie: “It was fantastic. The atmosphere was just incredible from our side but also their side. I’ve played cup games in four different countries, and they always have their own life. Port Vale came out and tried to smash it in the second half so we needed to survive that and we did. Credit to them but also to us for finishing strongly with Bryan coming in. He was exceptional.”

And Jonas is confident his new club are well equipped to ensure their first season in the top flight in 74 years won’t be just a flash in the pan.

“In my first season with Huddersfield we had that togetherness but there was much less quality than we have here," he said. "The togetherness made something exceptional and in your first season that’s so important, but if you can top it up with the quality we have that’s good.”

Jonas admits he has strong competition for the number one jersey but added: “I love English football and having the chance now to come back and be a part of this league and this club just spoke to me. We have some good goalkeepers, but I know what I can contribute and that's what I'm here for. I'll just contribute with all I can for us to have a good rest of the season.”

The Danish international is adamant he has made the right choice: “There’s doubt about the quality of the coach and all the players. I see big quality here. I've joined a Premier League team, no doubt about that.”
