Brentford B’s J’Neil Bennett was left delighted after he helped the young Bees to progress to the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup on Monday afternoon.

The winger made his debut for the side after signing for the Club at the end of November. The youngster has been recovering from injury and made his first appearance for the side against Peterborough United yesterday as part of a front three in what was an impressive display from Neil MacFarlane’s side in their 2-0 win.

“We’re over the moon because it puts us through with an extra game to play, said the 21-year-old. “Everyone is buzzing and happy going into the Christmas break. The boys have put in a massive shift.

“As a team everyone worked hard and adapted to the new situations that we were put in. Some of us were playing different positions but we stuck together and got on with our job.

“We’re constantly pushing each other in training so I think that helps a lot because when you come into a game we work to the same intensity.”

On turning out for the Bees for the first time having recovered from injury, the youngster was pleased to get significant minutes on the pitch having been made to wait as he went through his rehabilitation following the injury.

He continued: “I was over the moon because it’s been a long time coming. I’m happy to help the team get a win. When you play you don’t really think about it (the number of minutes). I looked up and it was 85 minutes and I was told I was coming off but overall I’m really happy. Maybe next time I can get a goal and help the team even more.

“The press was really good today; we knew what we were doing and trying to set traps. It was working and I actually think we should have got more goals. When you see your friend running to help you out, you do the same to help him and that shows that everyone is playing for each other.”

The B Team now go into their Christmas break in fine form having sealed progression to the knockout rounds of the competition. They have some exciting matches on the horizon going into the new year and J’Neil believes the young group have earned their break for their start to the campaign. The winger also says the side will back themselves to continue their positive run in the Premier League Cup.

He explained: “The boys deserve it as they’ve put in a massive shift in this first part of the season so I’m really happy for them.

“If we don’t believe then who will? We’ve got a really good team here, a lot of players who aren’t even with us today. If we do what we did today and what we have done before then I think we can go as far as we want to.”
