Brentford are sad to report the death of former player Jimmy Robertson, aged 86, on 11 June.
Born James Wright Robertson in Falkirk,Scotland, on 20 February 1929, he started his career with Dunipace Juniors before signing for Arsenal in 1948. Robertson appeared once in Arsenal’s First Team during that period, starting in their 3-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion on the penultimate day of the 1951/52 season.
Moving to Griffin Park in a part-exchange for Tommy Lawton in September 1953, Jimmy made his debut for Brentford in a 0-0 draw at home to Notts County. He was a regular in the side over the course of his three-year stay, making 84 league appearances and scoring 14 goals.
He moved to Southern League Gravesend and Northfleet in the summer of 1956. The club sends its condolences to Jimmy’s family and friends at this time.
