Jermaine Udumaga said he was “very pleased” to sign for Brentford.

The 18-year-old midfield player signed a one-year contract last week to be part of Brentford’s Development Squad.

He was offered the contract after a successful trial.

Jermaine, who was a scholar at Oxford United, played four games for Brentford in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South in 2013/14 and was told he was wanted after the derby against Queens Park Rangers.

“I am very pleased to be signing for Brentford,” he told Bees Player after finalising the deal.

“I came here at the end of last season, I enjoyed the training, I enjoyed working with the staff and coaches.

“The philosophy here is great – Brentford like to pass the ball and press high up the pitch, like I do.

“I am very happy.

“After the QPR game, my third, I had a meeting and Brentford told me they wanted to sign me, I was pleased.

“I had other clubs that wanted me to come but Brentford was the best choice.”

Jermaine said he enjoyed his appearances for Brentford last season.

He said Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza put responsibility on him during his games to take control in midfield but he relished that.

“I grew in to the games I played last year, I enjoyed them,” he said.

“The team passed the ball well and I got on the ball for a lot of the game.

“Jon put a lot of responsibility on me.

“He told me to try and control the game.

“I liked being under pressure, it makes me play better, I enjoyed it.”

Jermaine said his aim was to impress during pre-season training and try to get in to the First Team squad for the upcoming friendly matches.

He admitted it was a big season for him.

“I see First Team training sessions and they are lively, high intensity and I would like to be involved in them,” said Jermaine.

“I aim to do well for the Under-21s in pre-season and get in to the First Team.

“I will see what happens from there.

“This is a big season for me.

“The last couple of years I have been trying to find the straight and narrow.

“This is big for me.

“I am looking forward to it; I can’t wait to get started.

“The First Team doesn’t really know of me at the moment.

“I want to look to get noticed and see where it goes from there.”
