Jan Holldack has thanked the older members of the first-team squad for their help as he continues to work with them in the build up to the new Sky Bet Championship season. The B Team midfielder has taken a full part in The Bees pre-season schedule, featuring in all five friendlies, as well as being part of the training group in Germany. Now, speaking to Bees Player after Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Peterborough United, Jan said he had learned a lot in the last few weeks but admitted there was still much more learning to do.

“I have enjoyed every minute of pre-season so far and I have learned a lot,” said Jan. “The older players speak to you a lot and we had a great time together in Germany. I am still learning and I ask the older first-team players what I can learn from them and they still help me. It is a really nice team. We are good friends and like a little family. After the first months with the first-team I now feel comfortable. I am not nervous when I play. It is like training, you need to give 100 per cent and that is it.”

Tuesday’s match at Griffin Park saw The Bees succumb to a second defeat of pre-season after United's Paul Taylor scored the only goal of the game in the third minute. Dean Smith’s side dominated possession but couldn’t find a way back into the match despite creating a number of openings. While Jan was pleased to have got a 90 minute run-out for the first-team he was left frustrated at the loss.

“I really enjoyed tonight’s game,” said Jan. “It was nice for me to get some minutes for the first team. I had to play my game tonight and listen to the coach about what he wants from you and what you have learned in training. We conceded a bad goal. We have to work on the mistakes. We missed the last little point to score and if we had it would have been a different game. There are still things that we have to work on. We conceded a bad goal but we still need to be good enough to score two goals to win the game.”

The 20-year-old has been used in a variety of positions since joining from 1.FC Koln last summer. Jan was the Development Squad’s top scorer last season from central midfield despite also playing a number of games at centre-back. Tuesday’s friendly saw Jan feature at right-back with the youngster saying that he didn’t mind where he played so long as it helped the team.

“If the coach needs me to play in a position I will play there,” said Jan. “Wherever Dean wants me to play I will play there and give 100 per cent. I started playing in centre-midfield and then at centre-back and now I am playing at right-back. The Championship has a lot of big players and maybe playing at right-back will be a little easier for me than centre-back. Hopefully I can get some games wherever.”
