“We are stood here saying the same thing about playing well but not getting the points,” Nico told iFollow Brentford after the match. “It was daylight robbery. We should easily have been three or four up in the first-half and that is the difference at the moment. We had dominated the game and even when they scored they were saying about getting through to half-time and sorting things out. We looked like a team full of belief going forward. We were sharp and opening them up but we need to start taking the chances.”

Nico became the first player to score away from Griffin Park in the league when his long-range effort deceived Kieren Westwood after nine minutes. While he admitted it was nice to get up and running for the season, Nico would rather have had the three points.

“It was nice to get off the mark on a personal note,” said Nico. “At the end of the day it is the three points that matter and we were left disappointed again. I saw it come out of the air and the first thing on my mind was to get a good strike on it. I got it on target and luckily the goalkeeper has fumbled it and it has gone in.”

Tonight’s defeat means The Bees remain without a league win seven games into the season. Despite the difficult start to the season, Nico remains convinced that things will turn around if the team keep churning out the performances.

“We have to do our jobs better as it comes down to fine details again,” said Nico. “We shouldn’t be where we are in the league but it is down to us to change it. We have to believe in what we are doing and take our chances. If we come in at half-time two or three up, then it is a different ball game and we can say that after a few games this season. We just have to keep going, doing the right thing, and eventually it will pay off.”
