Brentford’s Development Squad fell to defeat in Suffolk in a match they should have won.

Leading on the hour mark due to a smartly headed goal from Tyrell Miller-Rodney, they conceded two goals in a three minute spell to give Ipswich all three points.

Fielding First Team squad members Sam Saunders, Nico Yernnaris, James Tarkowski and the returning Richard Lee, Brentford started off second best and it wasn't a surprise they fell behind in the opening stages.

A cross from the Ipswich Town right found Darren McQueen, but he couldn’t quite connect and the shot went wide.

Six minutes later, the hosts took the lead.

Raphael Calvet conceded a corner, from which Alex Henshall gave Terry Bishop the opportunity to half volley past Lee, despite The Bees goalkeeper getting a slight hand to it.

Brentford weathered further attacks before slowly feeling their way into the game.

Their patience was rewarded in the 32nd minute.

Montell Moore went on a mazy run that beat three Ipswich players, the youngsters shot clipped away for a corner kick.

From the resulting set piece Louis Hutton smashed the ball against the underside of the bar and into the net.

Play was then fairly static from both sides until the half time whistle.

From the resumption of the second half, Brentford stepped up a gear, holding possession and creating openings for Tarkowski, who spooned over the bar after a trademark rampage up the field, and Jermaine Udumaga, whose shot was blocked by Dean Gerkin.

Their effort was rewarded on the hour mark, Calvet’s superb cross meeting Miller-Rodney, who powered past Gerkin for a well taken headed finish.

That should have signaled a spell of dominance from the visitors but eight minutes later they found themselves 3-2 behind.

Town equalized in bizarre fashion in the 65th minute.

Winger Henshall shaped to cross from the Ipswich right outside the box, but succeeded in shanking the ball over Lee, and into the net via the post.

A goal he celebrated, but one of the most fortunate he will score in his professional career.

Three minutes later Ipswich scored their third and final goal – substitute Monty Patterson supplying Cameron Stewart with the simple task of slotting past Lee.

Brentford pressed but could not beat Gerkin in the Ipswich goal – Moore and Miller-Rodney both going close but the home side held out for the win..
