Yoane Wissa has reflected on Brentford’s 2-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday – and his telepathy with fellow Bees forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The pair combined for both goals as Thomas Frank’s side rounded off their away campaign with a late win on the south coast.
“We finished the game well and I’m happy for the win,” said Wissa.
“It’s a sunny day. I’m happy to score this goal and assist today. Very happy.
“Everyone wants to score and have an impact - and this is what I’ve done.”
For Brentford’s first goal, Wissa was set away down the right by goalkeeper Mark Flekken’s long kick and immediately flicked the ball into Mbeumo’s path.
The Cameroon international made no mistake with a finish into the bottom corner to net his 50th goal for the club.
Bournemouth levelled almost immediately through Dominic Solanke, before Wissa and Mbeumo combined again.
This time it was the latter who laid it on a plate for his team-mate to rifle the ball high into the net and put Brentford back into the lead deep into stoppage time.
Asked about his connection with Mbeumo, Wissa smiled: “The assist for Bryan was amazing; I saw him from the beginning and I knew I was going to do that. I’m happy he scored, because if he hadn’t, I’d have killed him!
“I’m happy he scored, and I’m happy I scored as well. He gave me back what I did for him.”
Brentford conclude the 2023/24 Premier League season with a visit from Newcastle United next weekend, and Wissa is keen for the Bees to finish on a high: “This is really important for us, and what we’ve done really well today. We wanted to give this to the fans. We’re safe and we want to enjoy our football a little bit.”
