Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has praised his team for a good performance, despite a 3-1 defeat against Manchester City, who he describes as "probably the best in the world".

The Bees were ahead until a goal from Phil Foden just before half-time, before the City man completed his hat-trick in the second half.

And Frank believes Foden's strike in the third minute of first-half injury time was disappointingly the turning point at Gtech Community Stadium.

“Overall, it was a good performance against a very, very good team, probably the best in the world," said the Brentford boss.

“We did so many things right, I want to praise the players for that. Of course, we need to look into the three goals we conceded - they were against a good team that put us under constant pressure.

“But we were brave, we defended well in long spells, and it's close to being a very good first half but, unfortunately, we give that goal away. If only we could have held out until half-time, we could’ve got a little bit more, but, hey, that happens.

“We came out second half, continued well, then we conceded the 2-1, where we knew we had to close down [Kevin] De Bruyne and, unfortunately, we didn't do that.

“So those two goals, and the chances to Ivan [Toney] and Christian [Nørgaard], was the difference between the two teams, on a day where we faced them and we needed to be almost perfect.”

Brentford have got a difficult schedule ahead, where they face the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United over the next couple of months.

But, first, the Bees take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday - a game that Frank is confident his side can get something from.

He said: “I'm always looking just one game ahead; that's where our maximum focus is and that's why we actually performed very, very well against the two top sides [Tottenham and Manchester City], unfortunately, we didn't get something out of it.

“So it's the same top focus on the next game. Every game we will have a very good chance to win it and that will be the same on Saturday.”
