Brentford defender Jannik Schuster has discussed his first pre-season since signing for the Bees from Red Bull Salzburg.
The Austrian has joined his new team-mates on a training camp in Portugal as Keith Andrews' side step up preparations for the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
“I have to say it’s very hard! Compared to my old club, it’s very intense but you get used to it,” said the 20-year-old following the conclusion of the first session at Cidade do Futebol.
“The training is more intense and after every training session, we have a gym session as well. I didn’t do that at my old club. It’s something new but I think it will be good for me.
“We didn’t go on a lot of pre-season [tours] at my old club, we just did them in the winter sometimes to Valencia. It was very good there but if you compare it to here, it’s another level.
“It’s perfect here. The conditions are good, the pitches are good, the weather is good and the hotel is beautiful next to the sea. I think we’ll have a nice time here.”
On his ambitions for the Portugal camp and pre-season on the whole, Schuster added: “The main thing is to get more and more in the group, to feel better and better here with the team, and also train hard to get into good shape for the games.
“Especially for me to get to know the boys, one week just with the guys here and not alone in the apartment is good.
“Honestly, everybody has welcomed me into the club. The young guys with a similar age to me, the older guys, the goalkeepers have all been nice to me and made me feel welcome here.”
