Yoane Wissa became Brentford's first-ever goalscorer at a major international tournament, as he netted in DR Congo's 1-1 draw with Zambia at the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.

Kings Kangwa put Zambia ahead in the 23rd minute with an innovative effort, but their neighbours equalised within four minutes through Bees striker Wissa.

Midfielder Gael Kakuta hit a perfect pass over the midfield for Cedric Bakambu to run onto and he, in turn, played his square pass with precision for Wissa to tuck away.

Wissa then played 90 minutes in DR Congo's 1-1 draw against Morocco on Sunday, as his team-mate Silas Katompa Mvumpa cancelled Achraf Hakimi's early goal for the Atlas Lions.

Hakimi scored from Hakim Ziyech's corner in the sixth minute, but Silas equalised in the 76th minute for DR Congo's second successive draw in the tournament.

The Leopards take on bottom-placed side Tanzania in their final group game on Wednesday (8pm kick-off GMT), with all to play for in Group F.

Elsewhere at AFCON, midfielder Frank Onyeka played 90 minutes as Nigeria handed hosts Ivory Coast a 1-0 defeat in their Group A clash on Thursday, with a second-half penalty settling the encounter.

Captain William Troost-Ekong struck home the 55th-minute spot-kick after a VAR review showed that Ivorian defender Ousmane Diomande had impeded Victor Osimhen.

The result means Nigeria move above the Ivorians in the standings on four points along with Equatorial Guinea, knowing that they can guarantee qualification for the knockout stages if they better the group leaders' result on the final matchday. The Super Eagles take on Guinea-Bissau on Monday (5pm kick-off GMT).

In the Asian Cup, Saman Ghoddos played 90 minutes as Iran booked their place in the last 16 when they beat Hong Kong 1-0 in a Group C game on Friday.

The result moved Iran to six points at the top of the group where they will be guaranteed a top-two finish. They sit two points above the United Arab Emirates, while Palestine are third with one point.

Iran broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Milad Mohammadi released Mehdi Ghayedi into the box, where the 25-year-old took his shot from a tight angle and beat the keeper as he guided the ball into the far bottom corner.

Ghoddos' side play UAE on Tuesday (3pm kick-off GMT) in their final group game, which will effectively decide who tops the table and gets a more favourable draw in the knockout stage.
