Brentford’s Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa have reached the last eight of the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and DR Congo respectively.
Onyeka’s Super Eagles beat Cameroon 2-0, while Wissa’s DR Congo overcame Egypt on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Former England Under-21s forward Ademola Lookman opened the scoring on 36 minutes for Nigeria, firing beyond goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa having been teed up by Victor Osimhen, before sealing the win with a volley in the 90th minute.
Onyeka played the full 90 minutes in Abidjan as five-time AFCON champions Cameroon failed to register a shot on target.
The Super Eagles will face Angola in the quarter-final on Friday 2 February (5pm kick-off GMT), also at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
Elsewhere, goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi scored the 18th penalty of a nerve-wracking shoot-out as DR Congo beat Egypt to reach the quarter-final following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
DR Congo went ahead when Meschack Elia headed home Wissa’s cross, but their lead lasted just nine minutes - Mostafa Mohamed equalising from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage-time.
Egypt ended with game with 10 players after left-back Mohamed Hamdy was shown a second yellow card seven minutes into extra time for a foul on Simon Banza.
And, after Egypt keeper Gabaski struck the crossbar in the ninth round of the shoot-out, Mpasi kept his cool to win it 8-7 on penalties.
DR Congo will play Guinea in the quarter-final at Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Friday 2 February (8pm kick-off GMT).
