Shamar Nicholson scored two goals in three minutes, before Canada wrestled back the advantage when Ismaël Koné scored in the 69th minute to make the score 4-3 on aggregate.

However, nine minutes later, Bobby Decordova-Reid netted a penalty to decide the tie.

Jamaica were rewarded with a spot in their third Copa America, joining Mexico, Panama and the USA in the semi-final of the Concacaf Nations League set for March 2024.

Elsewhere, Mathias Jensen was withdrawn just after the hour mark as Denmark fell to a 2-0 defeat to Northern Ireland on Monday.

The Danes, who secured their Euro 2024 qualification with a 2-1 victory over Slovakia last week, were beaten in Belfast thanks to second-half goals from Isaac Price and Dion Charles.

Also on Monday, Thomas Strakosha kept a clean sheet as Albania drew 0-0 with Faroe Islands; Ji-soo Kim played the final eight minutes as South Korea Under-22s recorded an impressive 3-0 friendly victory over France Under-21s; and Wales, captained by Fin Stevens, lost 2-1 to Denmark in a Euro 2025 Under-21 Championship qualifier.

On Tuesday, Bryan Mbeumo was a second-half substitute as Cameroon drew 1-1 with Libya in a World Cup qualifier.

Cameroon top their group having taken four points from their opening two matches.

Mark Flekken was an unused substitute as Netherlands rounded off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with an emphatic 6-0 win over Gibraltar.

Netherlands will compete at Euro 2024 next summer having finished as runners-up to France in Group B.

Saman Ghoddos’s Iran drew 2-2 with Uzbekistan, leaving them top of their World Cup qualifying group with four points from their opening two matches.

Ghoddos assisted Mehdi Taremi for Iran’s second goal before being withdrawn on 44 minutes.

Yehor Yarmoliuk played 51 minutes as Ukraine beat Azerbaijan 1-0 in a Euro 2025 Under-21 Championship qualifier. Ukraine have a three-point lead over England at the top of Group F, having won all five of their games so far.

England, who had Brentford’s Matt Cox on the bench, beat Northern Ireland 3-0 on Tuesday.
