Henrik Dalsgaard is on the verge of becoming the first player contracted to Brentford Football Club to play at a World Cup after being named in the Denmark squad for the tournament. The 2018 FIFA World Cup will kick-off in Russia next week as the hosts start the tournament against Saudi Arabia on Thursday 14 June. All countries have to name their final squads by the end of today, Monday 4 June, and Denmark named theirs last night, including Brentford right back Henrik.

The Danes have been drawn in Group C for the tournament. They will face Peru, Australia and France as they look to reach the last 16 and, perhaps, progress further. They cut their 35-man provisional squad down to 23 after a 0-0 draw against Sweden in a friendly on Saturday. Henrik made the final group but there was disappointed for Andreas Bjelland.

The Brentford centre half played a crucial part in Denmark reaching the World Cup. Andreas played in both legs of the Qualification Play-Off win over Republic of Ireland which ensured Denmark reached Russia and was in the 35-man squad. But he picked up an injury before the Sweden match and has not been named in the final 23.

Henrik missed the win over Ireland with injury but has earned ten caps for his country since his debut two years ago. Five of those caps were earned in the World Cup campaign and six since he joined Brentford last summer. He played 90 minutes in the draw against Sweden. Henrik has also played for Denmark at Under-21 and Under-20 level.

Denmark have one more match before the tournament, against Mexico on Saturday. They will then travel to Russia for the tournament. Denmark play their first match against Peru on Saturday 16 June before games against Australia and France.
