Teenage winger Henrik Johansson has become the latest addition to the Brentford B squad. The 18-year-old joined Brentford B today, Tuesday 10 January, after passing a medical, subject to international clearance. The Swedish youth international has joined The Bees after turning down a contract at Halmstads Bollklubb and the two clubs have reached an undisclosed transfer agreement for the switch.

Henrik has played twice for Sweden at Under-19 level. He scored once in his two appearances in 2015 and made his debut at that level when just 17. Henrik has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal and is under contract until the end of the 2018/19 season. He will be part of the squad that travels to Germany later this week for Brentford B’s historic match against Bayern Munich and then on to Denmark for an invitational tournament.

Henrik came through the youth ranks at Halmstads, turning professional two years ago. The teenager has excelled in Swedish youth football, scoring 16 goals in 46 games in the national Under-19 league. He also contributed a further 11 assists for Halmstads in his two years at that level and played in the Under-21 league and cup despite being just 18. Henrik also has genetics on his side as he is the grandson of legendary Brazilian Garrincha, who won two World Cup winners medals and scored 12 goals in 50 games for his country.

Robert Rowan, Brentford FC Head of Football Operations, said: “I am delighted we have added Henrik to our group. He’s had a good couple of years in Sweden at club and international level, which initially brought him to our attention. We then invited him to train with us in December for a few days where he really impressed the Technical Staff. Henrik is a wide attacker who is intelligent in possession, quick, direct and a good finisher. There are areas that the staff and Henrik will need to work on in order for him to further his development and they will plan that with him in the coming weeks.

“Henrik will fly out with his new team mates to Munich on Thursday. The 11 days in Germany and Denmark should give him the ideal chance to integrate with his new team mates, learn more about our style of play and compete with the others for a chance to play against Bayern Munich, Esbjerg and Hamburg.”
