Montell Moore said scoring his first goal for Brentford at Development Squad level was a fantastic feeling.
The Youth Team striker scored Brentford’s goal in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South defeat to Queens Park Rangers yesterday.
He picked up a pass from Jermaine Udumaga, which had been dummied by Michal Onovwigun and fired it home.
The goal put Brentford one up but they were beaten 2-1 as QPR came back.
“It feels fantastic,” said Montell, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“It was good to get on the score sheet for the first time.
“I screamed at Michael to leave the ball.
“I thought he was going to take it but he left it.
“I hit it first time and it went under the keeper.”
Brentford’s goal came just four minutes in but Modibo Maïga equalised for QPR on the half hour.
Brentford had chances to get something from the game but Sam Magri headed the winner for QPR in the second half.
Montell said Brentford Development Squad Manager Jon De Souza had praised the way they fought for the result, albeit unsuccessfully.
“It wasn’t a good result today but Jon said we battled hard,” he said.
“QPR are a physical team, they are known for that.
“We battled well.
“Games against QPR are like that.
“It was disappointing to concede the equaliser when we did but we battled on.
“We were pleased with ourselves but not the result.”
Brentford started the match with only four professionals with four Youth Team players as well as two trialists and a non-contract goalkeeper.
Montell, 18, has played six games for Brentford’s Development Squad this season as well as 15 for the Youth Team, scoring nine goals.
He played against former England right back Luke Young and outlined the differences at Under-21 level compared to Under-18 level.
“At this level everything is quicker,” said Montell.
“It is easier to play in one sense, the run is there to see, the pass is there to see.
“But physically it is much harder.
“Younger players at this level have to be livelier against older players.
“We have to be more mobile.
“It was great for me today.
“When I play against players like that I want to try and get one over them, it is exciting.”
Montell said on Friday he would learn if he was being taken on as a professional.
“The season has been up and down but I am finishing it well,” he said.
“We get told about our contracts on Friday.
“It is nervous for all of us, wondering what will happen.
“We have to wait and see.
“You never know what can happen if you get a contract.”
