United returned to the Sky Bet Championship last season after six years in the third tier of English football. After a slow start to the season, losing three and drawing one of their opening matches, they ran away with the league title. In their remaining 42 games, they lost just three games and won 10 of their last 11 matches of the campaign. They were promoted on 8 April, following a 2-1 win over Northampton Town, with four games to spare. Comfortably cut adrift at the foot of the Sky Bet Championship table 12 months previously, Bolton Wanderers fans were able to celebrate an immediate return to the second tier this time round as Phil Parkinson led The Trotters to a second-place finish in his first season in charge. Wanderers' success was built on a watertight defence that conceded a league best 36 goals over the campaign as they erased memories of their nightmare 2015/16 campaign.Get a preview of promoted Wanderers here.Middlesbrough - Sat 30 September (A), Sat 17 March (H)

Middlesbrough’s return to the Premier League lasted just one season as they were immediately relegated back to the Sky Bet Championship. The North-East side had lost in the 2015 Championship Play-Off Final to Norwich City, after beating Brentford to get to Wembley, but went one better a year later. They finished second behind Burnley and secured promotion with a draw against Brighton and Hove Albion on the final day of the season. That was one of four straight draws as they stumbled over the line, albeit they were unbeaten in their final ten games.

Millwall started the 2016/17 season as one of the favourites from promotion from League One, and completed the job at Wembley in the Play-Off Final. The Lions had been relegated from the Championship in 2015 and almost made it straight back up. Despite the best efforts from top marksman Jermain Defoe, only five other members of the squad contributed a total of nine goals in the league. Manager David Moyes found it hard going in a league that had last saw him sacked as Manchester United manager in 2014. Sunderland didn't even pick up a win until early November, and by then they found themselves five points from safety at the foot of the table.The Black Cats are down after a decade in England's top tier, more here.Hull City - Sat 9 December (A), Sun 6 May (H)

Hull City have continued their yo-yo existence, changing division for the fourth time in five seasons. After winning promotion via the Play-Offs in 2016 Hull started the season as favourites for relegation as manager Steve Bruce left and gaps were left in the squad. Former Brentford right back Moses Odubajo suffered a serious injury, as did central defender Michael Dawson and others including Mohamed Diamé, Isaac Hayden, who was on loan, and Sone Aluko left. They won their first two games but were in the relegation zone by the end of October and were in there for most of the rest of the campaign.The Tigers are back on the hunt for a first-time return to the Premier League, the preview here.
