There have been some fantastic encounters with tomorrow’s opponents Blackburn Rovers in recent years. From the 4-3 Littlewoods Cup win at home in 1988 to last year’s double over Rovers with a 3-1 home win followed up by a dramatic 3-2 win at Ewood Park. However there is one match between the two that always sticks out: the 1989 FA Cup Fifth Round tie in Lancashire.

The Bees hadn’t reached the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup in 40 years but, having knocked out Manchester City in the previous round, more than 3,000 Brentford fans made the trip up to the North West full of hope. That hope was rewarded as Gary Blissett netted twice late on to secure a 2-0 win and set up a Quarter-Final tie at Anfield against giants Liverpool.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Sky Bet Championship match with Blackburn Rovers at Griffin Park we asked supporters on our Facebook page what their memories of that day were, and this is what they had to say.

John Rogers - I went with my 24 year old son. When Bliss scored my son jumped in the air and twisted his ankle on the terracing, I almost had to carry him back to the station. He was having a dodgy sickie to watch the match but then had to take another 6 weeks off. Great day up there with them.

Phil Redfearn - Listening to the other results on the way home and realising that we were the only team outside the top division to be left in the FA Cup.

John Arthur Hirdle - The special train from Ealing Broadway, particularly the journey back after the win. Memorable day.

Jon Harbour - I remember it so well. When it was 0-0 with less than 10 minutes to go we all got the sense that we could pinch it! Can't ever remember seeing pandemonium at a Brentford game when the two goals went it! Particularly the second one! Funniest of all though was seeing how far Steve Perryman's jaw dropped on live TV when the quarter final draw was made!

Christopher White - What a fantastic day. Hard to believe it was so long ago. The split second we knew the second goal from a tight angle was actually going in was incredible. The whole end erupted.

Andy Cole - I just remember dancing and hugging the guy standing behind me for rather a long time. No idea who he was but who cares, Just a fantastic day. With 10 mins to go I was just wondering what time I would have to get up to drive to Griffin Park for the replay. Then the magic happened. Fantastic day.

Maxwell Brake - Every so often I look at the goals from this and see myself pogoing down the terrace after the second went in. One of the best ever days to be a Bee.
