Freya Worsley felt the Bees put in a ‘good performance’ as their 6-1 win over Sport London E Benfica at Bedfont Sports Club puts Brentford Women top of the league table.
Brentford Women’s number 20 put in another solid performance for her side in central midfield with the women’s first team scoring five times in the second half to ensure the win.
Speaking on the game, Worsley said: “In the first half we weren’t at our best as I’m sure Karleigh has said but in the second half we started to play the ball around and were a lot more relaxed.
“We scored five goals in that second half where I thought Nikki (Saunders) and Chloe (Logie) combined very well so it was a good performance in the end.”
Since signing for the club earlier in the year Worsley has become a key player for Brentford Women with her work rate and technical ability in midfield proving to be key.
The 20-year-old feels she has settled into the group well upon her arrival and talks on the relationship she has built with captain Mollie Holmes who plays alongside Worsley in midfield.
“I enjoy playing here more and more every week, I look forward to each training session and each match,” said Worsley.
“Me and Mollie have started to understand each other’s games really well which helps, she offers a lot of support football-wise but off the pitch also.”
Worsley grabbed her first goal in Brentford colours in the 4-1 win over Richmond Park on April 2 in front of a record crowd at Bedfont Sports Club.
The number 20 talked on how she hopes to increase her goal ratio as we enter the final few games of the season.
“I like both sides of the game going forward and defending, I like getting myself assists and playing passes through to my teammates.
“I was really happy with my goal the other week I don’t score that often so it was good to get my first and hopefully I’m set up for a few more now.”
The women’s first team’s attention now turns to Sunday’s Capital Cup final where they will take on league rivals Dorking Wanderers in a 1pm kick-off at Bedfont Sports Club.
Worsley believes her side is ready for the challenge that Dorking will bring but acknowledges that she and the rest of the team will need to be at the top of their game if they want to win the competition.
She continued: “I’m very excited for the final, I’m slightly nervous because Dorking is always a tough game but I think if we play the best we can we’ll make it a good match.”
